It’s Election Day, here in the Philippines! And guess what? That means, it’s a National Holiday…
Yes, folks. You heard that right! A national “day off” in order to facilitate and enable Filipinos to express their will by voting.
As I mention in the video, traveling to other countries gives us a new perspective on our own country. Sometimes we better appreciate America and sometimes we smack ourselves on the forehead and say, “Why don’t we do that?!”
BY THE WAY!!!
The “Work Away Cultural Exchange Program” that I mention in the video is HERE: https://www.workaway.info
GREAT RESOURCE!
Imagine a nice, local family offering you sleeping accommodations and two meals a day plus their company and local advice in exchange for 20 hours a week of:
Animal Care
Painting
Gardening
Childcare
Teach English in a village school
Animal rescue
Construction projects
Cooking & English for the family
Giving Cacoa Tours in Guatemala at a resort (this one ALSO pays cash!)
Lastly, eating local from the grocery store is not only cheaper but can give you a better sense of the culture, be much healthier, and often actually taste better!
My son and I will never forget the amazing fresh cheeses sold in the various countries east of the Adriatic Sea that we visited during his 17 year old “world schooling adventure.” Each town had its own local varietals, a sweet Air BnB host gave us a bottle of home-pressed olive oil, and we made delicious crepes for our hosts in Montenegro and Italy! And why not?
Food is life. Community if life. Sharing is human and natural and more meaningful than a meal at a restaurant…
