I know that I live in a midnight blue echo chamber region of the country, but it still catches me by surprise.
When I moved to this island, it's reputation was as a place where people were going to live the way they wanted to live, there are bumper stickers all over the place that say. “keep Vashon weird,” and family decision-making, with regard to medical care and education of children, and so many other forms of variety and diversity — true diversity! Not DEI diversity, but real American melting pot differences were celebrated on this island.
And now, only 20 years later, we are an island of cancel culture, public, bullying, tactics, censorship, silencing of voices that don't agree with the government or the mainstream media or big corporate narratives, we are an island where people are scared to speak up if they're going to say something that Isn't in agreement with everyone around them because they don't want to get canceled or fired or ostracized, and this island has changed so dramatically in just 20 years.
So yeah, it catches me off guard when this blatant failure to remain true to our American values type of behavior just jumps up and says, “hi, here I am!”
In this video I talk about how tribalism is so blatant in my community, And it has to do with the renting of rooms and the expectations that are set for what type of person will be acceptable as a future housemate.
Forget about red lining! We have blue lining going on, loud and proud, in the same community where people are terrified to say anything at work in front of a person who can hire or fire them because they're pretty sure they'll lose their job if someone finds out that they voted differently in November than their employer.
