March, I think you mean "since 2020" in that first bolded paragraph.

Narcissism. In my view, it's what this all boils down to. Everyone has an intrinsic need to be correct, to be seen as an arbiter of truth. Dissent from that opinion means that you could, in theory, be incorrect. This brings the whole house of cards down, upon which a person stands. And since many people directly tie their self esteem to their perceived level of intelligence, it makes life for them intolerable to be wrong.

Of course truth is a very tricky concept to be nailed down.

Subjective truth is the concept everyone seems to understand fairly well. What you see with your eyes and hear with your ears is real (to you), no matter what other information comes to light after. We are wired (or possibly conditioned) to accept the first thing that fills the knowledge/information gaps that we have. For many, they rely on their trusty MSM sources to fill those gaps. With those gaps filled, they now go on their merry way repeating that information and have a source to cite as the foundation of their superior thought processes, thereby, feeding their egos. This gives them the superiority that feeds their narcissism.

There are far fewer people who are capable of going beyond this mental trap. This is where you run into objective truth. This is the truth that not only do you see with your own eyes and hear with your own ears, but you see and hear it with other people's eyes and ears. Moreover, you identify your own cognitive bias and where that bias interferes with the other points of view offered up from others. This requires a person with a lower level of narcissism, which untethers that person from equating intelligence with their self esteem (or humility in a nutshell). In my humble opinion, these are the enlightened. These are the people who are capable of separating education from intellect or intelligence. All people are fallible; there are only very few who recognize and admit that within themselves and society at large. The less enlightened are never wrong. All who believe the opposite are wrong. This is the state they live in - the absolute binary thinking trap. "Only a Sith believes in absolutes". Who knew Star Wars could be so prescient?

The MSM is all too aware of this. To generate propaganda is to generate revenue, full stop. They are less interested in providing objective information and nuance. This would cause people to actually think for themselves. If people think for themselves, then they will look at a more diverse set of information they give you, the more likely you are to seek out their competitors for further information. This is bad for business. I could be wrong about this part, but this is what it appears to be to me.

I could go on, but this already a novel of a post, so I'll stop here.

My first—and only—experience with media shenanigans was at a recent school

board meeting. In the midst of a pre-meeting anti-mask protest, the harmless-seeming young local reporter approached and asked about masking children. He accepted my disapproval of it and moved quickly to the vax issue then proceeded to argue with me on camera. I made sure he regretted it, but it was a lesson learned the hard way. Never again.
