Dear Freedom Friends,
The New Year is just around the corner. Life is about to change. By choice. By accident. By coincidence. By nature. No matter what, tomorrow will be different from today - in many ways, small and large. Weather, sunrise, temperature, world events, local events, what you eat, what you wear, what you do, the list of changes goes on.
In which case, who wouldn’t want to CHOOSE the changes that will make the upcoming year better, wiser and healthier than the last?
Here’s a great example! Everyone talks about turning off the television, right? But, what are we supposed to turn on, in its place? We used to say, “…and turn on the internet!” However, that medium is becoming more complex by the hour. What’s the use of swapping one stresser for another? Instead, become a Vashon Loop Reader, and enjoy community-sourced news reports, opinions, gardening advice, poetry, public interest articles, and the best horoscope this side of the Atlantic!
The Vashon Loop might appear “hyperlocal,” as in, limited to a small geographical area, but this is not the case. Much of our content is worthy of your time, whether you live in Texas, Ireland, Miami or Melbourne! As it should be.
This awesome article, from our November issue, manages to touch upon powerful challenges faced by individuals living with physical disabilities, all through the sweet story of an elderly, adopted cat. “Gradually, I realized that she was teaching me,” the author shares, going on to explain, “I began to understand I had never lived with someone who was physically disabled. Recognizing I had never truly accepted my injuries, Sheba taught me to love my body as is.”
Everyone in the world is welcome to enjoy The Vashon Loop’s content, free of charge, on our website. We print and distribute 3,000 issues each month, offering them freely around the island and in West Seattle. This is our commitment to equity - no cost to readers means everyone can enjoy our content.
And that means, we must find another way to generate revenue. Our honest hope is to move beyond mere sustainability. We work long, hard hours, and we love what we do, which is why we want to continue! And that requires that we be paid adequately for our time and effort.
Your decision to subscribe to our new Vashon Loop Substack, is an important one. Thank you for your consideration. And now, enjoy this article, freely available to all on our website.
