How To Handle Getting Lost in a Foreign Country!
Monday, June 2nd, 2025
So...today, I couldn't find my Air BnB in Suwon, South Korea. It was also hard to find the bus stop - both unusual situations.
I eventually found the bus (after asking for help from three people) - the young man in the iPhone Store ended up speaking English, thank goodness!
But, the directions to the Air BnB took me to a collection of condemned apartments with no lights, no people, and huge piles of trash.
It was getting dark and there were very few people around anywhere, so I gave up and went to a police station I had passed earlier.
Twenty minutes later, you guessed it!
I got to ride in the back of a South Korean Police Car, as two young guys made it their mission to escort me safely to my destination and make sure I wasn't being scammed or anything weird.
NOT MY FAULT!
The police and I went up two (2) different apartment buildings until we found the correct "Apartment #910" and they told my Air BnB Hosts that the wrong road was written in the directions given, which is why I ended up on the wrong block.
So....after spending the train trip trying to find a restaurant that would still be open past 21:00, I told my host that I was going to venture out in search of sustenance.
Then, just as I decided to make a dinner of my three hard boiled eggs and go in search of food in the morning -- my host offered to feed me Ramen and some of her homemade kimchi and marinated onions.
The goal? To avoid another visit from the police, I'm sure! LOL - I readily agreed, and so, here I sit. A testament to the power of perseverance!
I found the trails to the mountaintop this morning (5 mile walk in the forest) and I found my Air BnB, come Hell, High Water, Confusing Bus Systems, Wrong Directions, Condemned Buildings and Wonderful, Helpful Police Officers -- where there's a will, there's a way!
Why and how? Because I never stopped trying. It's also why I'm the person in the family that always seems to find lost objects, because everyone else eventually gives up and I don't. I'm not willing to. Whatever we're looking for is out there, and gosh golly I'm gonna find it because I'm not going to stop until I do. It is amazing, the things I have found over the years on behalf of other people!
But, that's the life of a mother and a full-time homemaker and a person who just doesn't give up…
Have a great day! And wherever you are in your life, and wherever you're trying to get to, don't stop until you get there, even if you have to ask for help along the way.
