Speaking out has been very dangerous over the past five years. And it remains extremely dangerous.
TRUST ME - I GET IT.
In spite of that, I did and continue to speak up in hopes of a better future.
The individuals who organized the incredibly beautiful, beloved and very peaceful Freedom Convoy that was the largest Convoy in human history and drove across the entire nation of Canada, those leaders are being dragged into court again again for various reasons threatened with heinous fines and imprisonment.
Today they are still being persecuted just as they were back in 2022.
AGAIN. Trust me. I get it
BUT, DO YOU?
People who have opinions that differ from my own, are completely free to safely express themselves across this nation, and people might not agree with you, but they are not going to fire you, kick your children out of college, spread rumors around the community so that no one will hire you, demand that you move out of their house, or otherwise threatened to destroy your career and capacity for generating a livelihood…
AGAIN.
They might disagree with you, but that's it.
Even today, the people posting this who think they are experiencing such dire and horrible circumstances, they are enjoying far, far greater Freedom and Liberty than people like me experienced during Covid.
You've got it good, comparatively.
And, you're whining publicly about it?
I had it really rough, and I was meeting secretly with a handful of people in my community because we were all in desperate need of a safe place where we could speak our mind and not instantly get fired...
...or canceled...
...or ostracized...
...or reported to the government...
...or kicked out of our rental...
...or face criminal penalties…
...and so on.
I have never understood the insistence of the Left that those with whom they disagree should be censored. Obviously this is not true of everyone with Leftist leanings, but the further left they move, the greater the inability to even listen to conflicting thoughts and ideas.
In the last election our country was directly choosing between a Republican Party that endorsed the First Amendment and Free Speech, and a Democrat Party who had just spent 4 years censoring/cancelling anyone who said ANYTHING that they found objectionable. This was highlighted with social media and posts regarding Covid; say anything negative about masks or vaccines and you were instantly banned. I know this to be true, because it happened to me several times on several different sites. The irony here is that everything that I and most of the others accused of posting misinformation were trying to share has turned out to be completely true, and the "approved information" being pushed by the government and media was horribly wrong and at times actually dangerous.
The really scary thing is that almost 50% of the country voted for the Democrats, who straight-out said that Free Speech needed to be restrained and monitored. Worse, the same Democrat Party has not changed their views on Free Speech and still believes in censorship and cancellation. And worst of all, there are still far too many Democrat voters who support this blatant disregard for the First Amendment, and would like to be able to censor opinions they find disagreeable. I really feel for you living on Vashon, it is not a place that is at all friendly towards non-Leftist opinions.
